2015 Black Enterprise Small Business Award – Family Business of the Year

Satori Interactive Recognized as a Family-operated Business Exemplifying the Combined Experience & Expertise Needed to Excel in a Key Industry

May 20, 2015

Each year Black Enterprise hosts a three-day Entrepreneurs Summit tailored to both established business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.  The summit agenda is always packed full of keynote speakers, educational sessions, one-one-one consultations, networking opportunities, and nightly entertainment activities.  Black Enterprise also takes time to honor small businesses with awards across four categories – Techpreneur of the Year, Community Pillar of the Year, Family Business of the Year, and Franchise Owner of the Year.

This year, the Entrepreneurs Summit was held in Atlanta, Georgia at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.   This was fittingly the perfect location for Satori Interactive, an Atlanta Metro area based company, to receive the Family Business of the Year award.  Satori Interactive was chosen from a group of nominees spanning across many industries & geographic locations.

Both Dara & Fela attended the awards luncheon on Thursday, May 14th and were delighted to receive the award.  Here are a few pictures we gathered from the event along with thoughts from Dara, Fela & Lawrence (their father):

The award from Black Enterprise is significant to our family: since Fela and my childhood, the Black Enterprise magazine was one of the main sources of business information for our family.  Our Dad would continually tell us that we needed to start our own business; and, Black Enterprise was an excellent mentor for us to follow for up-to-date information on business systems and procedures.  Being a recipient of Black Enterprise’s Family Small Business of the Year award for 2015 is a great privilege and awesome testimony to the hard work that my sister (Fela), our team, and I have put into ensuring that we deliver compelling digital experiences for people to use on the web, mobile devices, and interfaces.  It is truly an honor to be recognized by Black Enterprise, and our entrepreneurial peers for this achievement.  We are truly blessed.

I’m so honored and humbled to be recognized by Black Enterprise as the 2015 Family Business of the Year!!! This award would not be possible with out my sister and partner Dara Solomon with whom I take every step of this journey in excitement. Together we can accomplish anything.  I am also thankful for our AWESOME team who have helped us take our vision to the next level of excellence.

Pride was just one of the emotions I felt when I saw my daughters, Fela and Dara, owners of Satori Interactive, LLC, on stage accepting the award from Black Enterprise as the Family Business of the Year.  Throughout my girls’ childhood we impressed upon them the ability to be their own boss and to be smart, because no one can take knowledge away from you. Black Enterprise was one of the magazines we had around the house, and they could see that Black people did own their own businesses and they were successful; this image remained in their heads throughout their school years:  Dara majored in engineering, and Fela majored in mathematics.  Love was the second most powerful emotion that I felt; we are a loving family who support each other, and the love that my children have for each other has allowed them to face the many challenges they encounter as small business owners.  The experiences they had in life supports their ability to learn from others, work hard as a team, and create positive business experiences for their clients.
